Summarizing the Group Discussion possibilities:

Discussion Possibility 1: “Can you relate to Rob?”
http://plpadvis.ning.com/forum/topics/can-you-relate-to-rob
  • This discussion is based on a “voki”, an animated talking character who is feeling overwhelmed by all the possibilities of elearning.
  • The discussion task is to listen to Rob and then to decide if we relate and if so what we think of his concerns and strategies for addressing these concerns.
  • The purpose is to give us an idea of what a collaborative team project could look like. We could do our own version of “Rob” on some topic of our choosing.

Discussion Possibility 2: “21st Century Skills enGauge”
http://plpadvis.ning.com/forum/topics/21st-century-skills-engauge
  • This discussion is based on a chart prepared by a group called enGauge which presents 21st century skills in a four quadrant chart.
  • We saw this chart briefly in our Germantown Academy presentation by Cheryl.
  • The Skills are
    • Digital Age Literacies
    • Inventive Thinking
    • Effective Communication
    • High Productivity
  • Teams are supposed to assess where they feel their strengths are as a team in teaching these skills and where we need to strengthen as we “manage 21st century change”

Discussion Possibility 3: “Partnership for 21st Century Skills”
http://plpadvis.ning.com/forum/topics/partnership-for-21-century
  • This discussion is based on a concept prepared by a group (Partnership for 21st Century Skills)
  • We saw this chart briefly in our Germantown Academy presentation by Cheryl.
  • This was the rainbow chart
    • blue concentric circles called Learning Environments, Professional Development, Curriculum and Instruction, Standards and Assessment
    • colored sections titled Life and Career Skills, Learning and Innovation Skills, Information Media and Technology Skills, Core Subjects and 21st Century Themes.
  • The task is for each of us to take one of the 8 sections and learn more about it and then report back to the group with a “valuable resource” or something else each of us learned.

In each case, the expectation is that we will respond to the discussions f2f and on the Ning. We may also want to post something collaboratively as a group.
